Tax Assistant

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a full and varied role, with regular exposure to lots of different areas of taxation. The role is within a busy and vibrant tax department, largely assisting 4 tax managers with the management of their clients’ affairs. On the job training can and will be provided, but the individual will require the ability to prioritise and manage deadlines, be confident liaising with clients and colleagues and have a mathematical mind. They will also need to be able to work independently at times from a brief provided.

MAIN DUTIES

Assisting tax managers with client allocations – to include:

  • Collating information for Self Assessment Returns
  • Completing Self Assessment Returns
  • Queries from clients regarding payment dates, amounts etc
  • Other queries from clients regarding their tax affairs
  • Researching/reviewing legislation for queries from staff
  • Invoicing clients where required

ASSISTED DUTIES (Full training provided where required)

Assisting with Tax Investigation work – to include:

  • Collating information from client/internally as requested by HMRC
  • Calculating potential liabilities arising from investigation
  • Claim Forms for clients with tax insurance – plus invoicing where applicable
  • Arranging deadline extensions with HMRC where applicable

Managing Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) Returns – to include

  • Reminding clients to send their data across at end of tax month
  • Completing the relevant CIS Return
  • Liaising with clients regarding payments due etc
  • Managing deadlines

Assisting with corporation tax queries – to include :

  • Support re submission of CT600
  • Queries re payment dates and amounts

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Organisational skills – ie managing deadlines
  • Confident telephone manner when speaking with clients
  • Ability to write letters to clients/HMRC when required (standard templates are used for majority of things)
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work independently when required
  • Time management
  • Ability to prioritise work
  • Ability to monitor and manage deadlines
  • Good computer skills
  • ATT Qualified / Intention to qualify preferable (study support offered)
  • Min 2 years’ experience within accountancy practice, ideally in taxation
